Enter the World of Sport Flying
From your first flight to getting your certificate, we can help you get a great start in world of sport flying. We adhere to ultralight certification standards set down by the major organizations who are recognized by the FAA - the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), United States Ultralight Association (USUA) and AeroSports Connection (ASC).
During your introductory flight, we'll go through the following goals and objectives:
Preflight Inspection: Understanding the major components of a flex-wing aircraft, basic methods and purpose of a preflight inspection.
Taxi and Takeoff: The basics of safe aircraft handling on the ground and takeoff procedures.
Straight and level flight: Comprehend the basics and feeling of flight.
Gentle turns and descent: Learning the controls and their effect in flight.
Landing and shutdown: Understand controlled descent, landing, and procedures for a safe touchdown.
From that point forward, you'll begin in-depth training in all of these aspects and more, including:
Ground Training:
Aviation Orientation: Getting started, costs involved, certifications, role of the instructor, agencies (EAA, USUA,ASC) and the FAA, limitations and privileges of an ultralight pilot, etc.
Vehicle Systems: Familiarity of the major aircraft components, instruments, common system errors or malfunctions, power plants, recovery systems.
Principles of Aerodynamics
The Flight Environment: Safety considerations, traffic patterns and airspace, airport markings, chart reading.
Communications and Flight Information: Using a radio, FAA provided information, FAA regulations.
Basic meteorology and weather conditions & forecasts.
Navigation
Written Test
Flight Training:
Vehicle & Document Familiarization: Preflight procedures, Flight controls, required certificates and documents
Ground operations & basic maneuvers: The proper positions for preflight and ground procedures, airport procedures, ground handling in wind, traffic patterns
Basic flight maneuvers: Pattern operation, stalls, situation awareness, slow flight
Emergency Procedures
Ground reference maneuvers
Airport Operations
Takeoffs and Landings
Navigation and Cross Country
Solo Testing
Your instructor will evaluate your progress at every step in the training to insure full and complete understanding of the student. Students learn at different paces and the instructor will tailor the instruction to the needs of the student for a safe and enjoyable learning process.
